Founding Technical Artist

$130K - $200K + 1.0-2.0% Equity

About the role:

As our founding Technical Artist, you'll be the one crafting the visual soul of Oto companions - shaping how they look, move, and feel. You'll work on art direction initiatives and dive deep into technical implementation, working with WebGL shaders, rendering systems, custom animations, and asset pipeline development using our in-house game engine to create immersive character experiences.

Your Canvas:

Design and implement character models, rigs, and animation systems within our custom web-based game engine
Create adaptive lighting and rendering pipelines that make characters feel naturally integrated with diverse web environments
Build modular character systems that scale from simple 2D sprites to rich 3D companions
Develop shaders and visual effects that enhance presence without overwhelming the browsing experience
Establish the visual language and feel that makes our companions instantly recognizable and emotionally engaging
Optimize assets and workflows specifically for web-based real-time rendering

You might be a great fit if you have:

A passion for bringing characters to life through the perfect blend of art and technology
Experience creating real-time 3D assets optimized for web performance
Strong skills in modeling, rigging, and animation with tools like Blender, Maya, or similar
Deep understanding of WebGL rendering, shaders, and real-time lighting techniques
Three.js experience strongly preferred—you'll be working extensively with web-based 3D
The ability to create cohesive visual experiences that scale across different contexts
1-3+ years of full-time experience at a hypergrowth startup or game studio
Ready to work in-person in San Francisco, CA

Strong candidates may also have:

Experience with procedural animation and reactive character systems
Background in creating assets for AR/VR or mixed reality experiences
Strong knowledge of web technologies (Three.js, WebGL, CSS animations)
Prior work on AI-driven or procedurally animated characters
Experience building or working with custom game engines

As our founding Game Engineer, you'll transform Chrome into a canvas for interactive experiences. Imagine Hatsune Miku dancing to music videos on Youtube, or an AI pet that keeps you company while you study, or your own personal Neurosama-style Vtuber to read memes and play games with. You'll make this magic real.

Your Canvas:

Build performant game systems that run on ANY website without breaking functionality
Create physics engines that understand and interact with arbitrary DOM structures
Design character controllers that bring the interactivity of game characters into the browser
Optimize WebGL rendering to support 100+ simultaneous AI companions without melting GPUs

You might be a great fit if you have:

Getting excited by "impossible" technical challenges (and have a track record of solving them)
Wanting to own entire systems from architecture to ship

UGC creator for Frisson Labs. You will regularly create content on Instagram / TikTok promoting Oto.

3-month contract at $60/hour with the ability to extend.

You've built a significant following across multiple social media platforms (Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, X, etc.) and understand what makes content go viral on each, bringing fresh insights that can amplify our brand across all channels

Your job is to make people feel the magic, whether that's through humor, surprise, or pure "wow, I need this" moments.

Create short-form TikTok & Instagram content that feels native, authentic, and impossible to scroll past
Translate Oto's unique AI companion experience into formats that spark curiosity and shares
Experiment relentlessly with trends, sounds, and hooks to discover what makes our audience light up
Capture and edit content that blends humor, storytelling, and subtle product moments
Build a recognizable visual and tonal style for Oto across social platforms

You might be a great fit if you have:

A significant TikTok/Instagram following you've grown yourself
A track record of making videos that go viral and get people talking
Deep knowledge of platform trends, sounds, and editing styles
A bias toward action - you can turn an idea into a published post fast
Comfortable being both on-camera and behind the scenes
